Language is the bridge that bring us together and Culture is the window of our souls--entering another world, our minds open and our heart connects with understanding.
Monterey Culture Language Art Center uses a combination of Reggio Emilia & Waldorf to teach Spanish- All learning will occur within an oral context through verse, song, and activities involving rhythm, dramatizations, and situational dialogues. Through these activities, students learn vocabulary and language experientially instead of conceptually. Little by little, we "embody" the words, and without realizing we get fully immersed in the foreign culture entirely; playing is simply how children learn.
The thematic content of the curriculum is grounded in everyday experience, i.e., through nature, colors, the body, clothing, food, the home and family, numbers, etc.
When we are willing to play and act like children again, we give ourselves the opportunity to expand and grow while having fun and being silly.
MCLAC goal is to offer the following foreign languages in 2019: Japanese, Mandarin, Russian, German, Farsi, and French.
